What is New in 4.00
This release note is dated 05/06/2001, and corresponds to X-Deep/32 4.0 release.

We wanted to make X-Deep/32easy to install and use, without offering very rarely used features that would complicate the software. Usability was the single most important item we focused in offering this new release.

We have switched the delivery of our software entirely to the internet thereby reducing overheads and passing on the savings to our customers.

This release has the following new features :
  • This release is based off X Window Release X11R6.5.1 from The Open Group.
  • Support for LBX (Low Bandwidth X)
  • Auto detectiion of XDM enabled remote hosts on startup for easy point and click connections to remote hosts.
  • Auto detection of font servers from XDM enabled remote hosts in the network, for easy point and click addition to X-Server's default font path.
  • Re-design of X-Server options dialog for improved usability.
  • X-Server can bind selectively to a given network interface. This is useful in a mutli-homed PC's with multiple network cards. Binding specifically to a given network card can provide increased security by restricting connections from other networks.
  • Option to simulate 8 bit Pseudo Color Visual when Windows color resolution is greater than 8 bit. This is useful for certain X applications which are specifically written to run on 8 bit pseudo color visuals.
  • Easier management of trusted hosts.
  • Improved install and uninstall program.
  • Ability to install to a desired directory.
  • Easy buy options and attractive multiple user license discounts, including education site license discount and site licnesing options.
  • This release is available only via Internet delivery. Easy conversion from evaluation mode to registered mode.
  • Misc bug fixes - notably problem running with StarOffice has been now fixed.
We have phased out the following to focus on our core offering - the X-Server.
  • Support for X11 Development libraries has been dropped.
  • Limited X Clients
Release 4.00 Bug fixes
  • We have tried to address most of the important bugs, notably problem with running StarOffice, which works now. We will continue to offer fixes for problems as and when they are reported through our ongoing updates.
